Mid Atlantic RFU Meeting of February 5, 2000
Meeting held at Nigel Willis's office in Alexandria, VA
Present: Reyn Kinzey, Eric Pittelkau, Kris Kabza, Dawn White, Dana Bateman, Jamie Jisa, Carl Schmitt, Nigel Willis, Mark Koiwai. Tom Walsh arrived at 1:30. Guest: Bill Lucas, VRU
Minutes from December 12, 1999 were approved with date change for the MARFU 7's from 7/22 to 7/29.
Treasurer's Report
Media RFC are to send a check to Jamie for $262.00 from the MARFU Div. II & III Championship held on May 1-2, 1999.
MARR
Mark distributed the 1999 Annual Report.
Bids
MARFU Wm's Club Championship (Final 4) for March 25-26, 2000 was awarded to Norfolk Storm Wm.
MARFU Men's Club Div. II (Final 4) for April 29 & 30, 2000. Three bids were received (United, Frederick and Norfolk). The bid was awarded to Richmond provided the County will move the goal posts to make the field wider and longer. Carl Schmitt will provide a letter from Enrico County by February 20th to Eric Pittelkau confirming they will move the goal posts.
No bids were received for the 7's events.
Budget
Final numbers of LAU member clubs are due to Jamie Jisa BY April 1, 2000. MARFU has not raised dues since our founding however we discussed the possibility. Jamie presented 2 option budgets for 2001. Either a $50 increase for Full Members, or $100 for Full Members, $50 for Associates and $25 for Recognized. She will also do a 3rd option analysis at $75 Full, $50 Associate & $25 Recognized. Budget increase will be voted on at the scheduled May 2000 meeting.
Men's Club Div. Play
Eric presented a plan whereby teams would play their divisional games in Spring and Fall. There would be a 12 team championship division with 7 games in the Fall and 4 in the Spring. Motion to re-organize the Div. 1 Men's Club league passed. The vote was 7 yes - 5 no. Eric is to send a hard copy of this plan to all teams. The "Ad Hoc" plan was not voted on.
Collegiate
Princeton U Wm are hosting a Sweet 16 in April 2000 - 3 pools.
The petition for a waiver for Villanova University to compete as a collegiate side has been denied by USA Rugby. Reyn is working on the appeal to the Management Committee.
USA
A $180,000 IRB grant has been given to USA Rugby to be used for Youth. Nigel Willis, Mark Rudolph, Anne Barry and Pat Walsh will be meeting (with others) at the end of this month in Denver to discuss the use of this grant.
Next Meeting
Saturday, May 13, 2000. Vote on dues increase. (this meeting was subsequently changed to June 25th)
